New Kindle Sells for $139


Unlike previous Kindles, the $139 “Kindle Wi-Fi” will connect to the Internet using only Wi-Fi instead of a cellphone network as other Kindles do. Amazon is also introducing a model to replace the Kindle 2, which it will sell for the same price as that model, $189. Both new Kindles are smaller and lighter, with higher contrast screens and crisper text.

No survivors likely in plane crash

ISLAMABAD - A Pakistani passenger plane crashed in heavy rain near Islamabad on Wednesday, killing at least 90 people and officials said it was unlikely that there would be any survivors among the 152 people on board.

The Airbus 321, belonging to private airline Airblue, crashed into a heavily wooded and hard-to-access hillside while flying from the southern port city of Karachi. Rescue workers were scouring the site for bodies, officials said.

Philippine police use Facebook in murder arrest


Philippine police on Wednesday said they used Facebook to help track down a computer technician accused of murdering nine people, three of them foreigners.

Police captured the suspect, Mark Dizon, 28, in San Fernando City north of Manila after his father, fearful that his son would be killed in a gunbattle, worked with authorities and arranged to meet him.

Plane carrying 152 crashes in Pakistan




Pakistani officials say a plane carrying 152 people has crashed in bad weather near Islamabad.

Authorities have so far recovered at least 20 bodies and expect the death toll to rise.

Pakistan's interior minister Rehman Malik said five injured people have been taken to the hospital.

Apple refreshes Mac line-up



Apple Inc., maker of the Macintosh computer, updated its line of iMac desktops with faster processors from Intel Corp. and new technology for displaying graphics in 3-D.

The machines cost $1,199 to $1,999 and include the Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors, Apple said Tuesday in a statement. The company also updated the Mac Pro with a faster processor.
